Scene 1
Banquo fears that Macbeth killed Duncan and wonders if the witches speak the truth. Macbeth fears Banquo because he thinks he might know the truth, and also it has been said that his son will be a king. Macbeth gets 2 murderers and tells them to kill Banquo and his son, Fleance.
” It is concluded. Banquo, thy soul’s flight, if it find heaven, must find it out tonight.” – Macbeth
Scene 2
Although they have got what they wanted, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are not happy. Macbeth fears that there are still dangers threatening them and something bad is gonna happen.
“O! full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife!” – Macbeth
Scene 3
The 3 murderers that were sent by Macbeth wait to ambush Banquo and Fleance. They manage to kill Banquo, but Fleance gets away.
“There’s but one down. The son has fled.” – 3rd Murderer
Scene 4
Macbeth is at his banquet and the murderer tells him that Banquo has been killed but Fleance escaped. Macbeth then sees Banquo’s ghost and gets worried. Lady Macbeth tells everyone that Macbeth’s strange behavior is nothing to worry about and then privately disproves Macbeth in private. Macbeth tries to stay composed but the ghost reappears. The guests leave confused and Macbeth wonders why Macduff never showed up.
“Avaunt! And quit my sight! Let the Earth hide thee!” – Macbeth
Scene 5
Hecate is angry at the witches for not telling her that they have been messing with Macbeth and she wants to destroy Macbeth.
“The close contriver of all harms was never called to bear my part.”
Scene 6
The lord tells Lenox that Malcolm is with the English king and Macduff is looking for support for an attack on Macbeth. They agree that Macduff should stay out of Macbeth’s way.
“Advise him to a caution, to hold what distance his wisdom can provide.” – Lenox
