Scene 1
Macbeth sees a dagger that isn’t really there, and is only his imagination. He then goes off to kill Duncan.
“Come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still” – Macbeth
Scene 2
Macbeth comes back from killing Duncan with the daggers he used to kill him. Lady Macbeth tells him to place them on his body but he is to disturbed to go back so she has to do it. Macbeth regrets killing Duncan. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth then go to bed.
“I’m afraid to think what I have done” – Macbeth “Consider it not so deeply” – Lady Macbeth
Scene 3
The Porter lets Lenox and Macduff into the Macbeth’s castle. Lenox describes strange, unnatural events of the last night, which is an example of pathetic fallacy. Macduff goes to Duncan’s room to see that he is dead. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth go to see it and they act shocked. They say that the bodyguards killed Duncan, and Macbeth killed he bodyguards. Malcolm and Donalbain plan to flee to England and Ireland out of fear.
“O horror! Horror! Horror! Tongue, nor heart, cannot conceive, nor name thee!” – Macduff “Here lay Duncan> His silver skin laced with his golden blood.” – Macbeth
Scene 4
Rosse and an old man talk about the murder, and also all the weird things that are going on. Macduff reports that Duncan’s sons have been accused of bribing the bodyguards. He also announces that Macbeth is already gone to Scone to be crowned as King.
“Malcolm and Donalbain, the King’s two sons, are stol’n away and fled, which puts upon them suspicion of the deed.” – Macduff
